SteadyS. w/ shut. 293

           6.22 STEADYS. W/ SHUT.

Menu Position MENU  5  Steady Shot with Shutter

What it Does Enables / Disables image stabilization when you press the
           shutter release button halfway

           Recommended Setting Off

Try this quick experiment to understand what this function does:
               1. Ensure that SteadyShot for Stills is off via MENU  8 
                  (Picture) SteadyShot  On
               2. Attach a telephoto lens to your camera
               3. Zoom in all the way, hold the EVF up to your eye, press the shutter
release button halfway, and try to induce some slight camera shake.
               4. Now turn this feature On and repeat Step 3 above.
You should be able to see the SteadyShot feature dampen the slight camera
shake. In addition, you may hear your camera make some strange high-
frequency noises (if you listen carefully) while this is happening. That's the
sound of the SteadyShot mechanism at work, and is perfectly normal.
Remember, SteadyShot was designed specifically to counteract a very
specific kind of camera shake, so sudden or large camera movements won’t
be corrected, but a tiny amount of shake (consistent with the kind that
naturally occurs when handholding a long lens) will be nullified within
           certain limits.

TIP: Interestingly, the SteadyShot for Movies feature (Menu  8  (Movies)
Steadyshot) works via a completely different mechanism, and is capable of
correcting more violent, overt kinds of camera shake. You can see this in action
when the exposure mode is set to “Movie”.)
