A note about the mirror: It’s not made of glass; it’s actually a very thin and
very high quality laminate with a plastic substrate which is manufactured in
layers and designed specifically to minimize artifacts like ghosting. Sony’s
manual says not to ever touch it and to send it in to their service center for
cleaning; however that’s actually being kind of alarmist. You can clean it
yourself using the same tools you’d normally use to clean the sensor; just take
care because the mirror is actually flexible and can be deformed or scratched.
More information can be found from this user’s website who actually removed
his mirror to clean a fingerprint from it: http://tinyurl.com/4kejdmo

What it Does It’s supposed to make the camera more appealing when it’s
           sitting on a retail shelf

           Recommended Setting Off

This was designed to make the camera more appealing to consumers as it
sits unloved on a retail shelf. After a minute of inactivity, if the camera
hasn’t been set to power off it will automatically start to play back
whatever movies are in there, sequentially. Presumably, the retailer would
have been product-savvy enough to put a demo movie on the memory card
and would have protected it from accidental deletion. Anyway, I’m not a
retailer, so it’s off. (Well, truth be told, I can’t seem to get it to not be grey.
           Doesn’t concern me.)
