Noteworthy Features in General 37
1.2.10 AF RANGE CONTROL
This can be a handy function for those lenses that are prone to hunting –
specifically, macro lenses and long telephoto lenses. With this feature you
can tell your camera “here, hunt for focus only within this range of
distances” and it should save you a lot of time and frustration. Regretfully
this feature can’t use it during movie making, where in my mind it would
have been the most useful. You can read more about this feature in Section
6.10.1.
Figure 1-14: You can use your Wi-Fi-enabled smartphone as a remote control
(and remote viewfinder) – as you can see it captured quite an expression on
the test subject (top, left). There’s also a new wired option (top right) which
plugs into the A77 II's USB port called the RM-VPR1 (right). Older methods like
using the infrared remote control or the original Sony Shutter Release Cable L
(all on bottom row) still work too.
