My Personal Camera Settings 57
(Section 6.14)
Zoom Setting Lets you choose between optical zoom and 2 kinds
of digital zoom. I’m not a snob; I have this set to
“On:ClearImage Zoom”. (Section 6.15)
Custom Menu 4
Function Setting
Eye-Start AF This function will initiate autofocusing as soon as
the EVF senses something close to it (like your eye).
I set this to “Off” because it’s prone to false
positives which can waste precious battery power.
(Section 6.16)
FINDER / MONITOR This setting determines whether you let the
camera switch between the EVF and the LCD
automatically or not. Having it set to “Manual” is a
nice battery saving technique – no displays will be
on unless there’s something close to the eyepiece.
(You can switch it using the FINDER / MONITOR
button on top of the camera.) But most of the time
I have it set to Auto. (Section 6.17)
Release w/o Lens “Enable” because I like watching the shutter work
with the lens removed. Also I can attach a non-
standard lens like a telescope and the camera will
still take pictures. (Section 6.18).
Priority setup When set to AF, tells the camera to not take a
picture unless it thinks the subject is in focus. I’m a
low-stress guy so I prefer “Release”. I’m not sure I
trust the “Balanced Emphasis” setting. (Section
6.19)
(Stills) AF w/ shutter Should pressing the shutter release button halfway
lock the focus? I like mine “On”. (Section 6.20)
(Stills) AEL w/ Shutter Should pressing the shutter release button halfway
lock the exposure? I like mine “On”. (Section 6.18)
