54 Essential Configuration
S, or M when shooting video. (Section 5.36)
(Stills) SteadyShot Image stabilization for stills. ON unless my
camera’s on a tripod. (This setting applies to stills
only.) (Section 5.37)
(Movie) SteadyShot Image stabilization for movies. I set mine to “On”
for smoother handheld videos. (Section 5.38)
(Pictures) Color Space sRGB. AdobeRGB is for experts who probably won’t
be reading this book. (Section 5.39)
Recording Menu 9
Function Setting
(Movies) Auto Slow Enables a slower shutter speed when shooting
Shut. movies in certain situations. I keep it set to “On.
(Section 5.40)
Audio Recording Do you want audio with your video? I choose
“On”. (Section 5.41)
Audio Rec Level (Available only when the exposure mode dial is set
to “Movie”.) This lets you set the audio volume on
either the built-in mic or an external mic, and
shows you pseudo-VU meters to help you make
the adjustment. (Section 5.42)
Audio Out Timing This one’s a tough one to explain, and it’s useful
when you’re shooting a music video and the actors
are lip syncing and you’re monitoring the audio
using a headset. Just set it to “Live”, the factory
default. (Section 5.43)
Wind Noise Reduct. Cuts out the lower frequencies where wind noise
usually occurs. Usually I set this to OFF unless it’s
actually windy. (Section 5.42)
Memory Stores the current camera configuration into one
of three memory slots. (Section 5.45)
