Chapter 3 QUICK GUIDE FOR THE
IMPATIENT USER
YES, IT’S BASIC, BUT I’LL BET YOU’LL LEARN AT LEAST ONE
NEW THING BY READING THIS CHAPTER.
In this chapter I’m going to start with the bare-bones basics and then work
my way up.
3.1 THE AUTO MODES
3.1.1 IAUTO (“INTELLIGENT AUTO”)
When the exposure mode dial is turned to Auto
(Figure 3-1), it turns your camera into a point
and shoot. There are actually two Auto modes
available, and you can choose between the two
via MENU 8 Auto Mode. In this
section I’ll describe the first option, Intelligent
Auto.
This setting will ignore almost every setting
you’ve changed on the camera, so you can shoot
the moment and not have to worry about, “Did I
remember to reset mode Q?” Once you’re
finished shooting, you can move right back to
your previous exposure mode (probably P, A, S, Figure 3-1: The
or M) and all of your previous settings are Intelligent Auto
restored. (iAuto) mode.
iAuto mode is ideal when handing the camera to
someone else to take a picture of you. And unlike previous Sony cameras,
iAuto DOES allow you to change some basic parameters – Just hit the Fn
button and you'll see all the paramaters that are changeable.
