162 The “Recording” (Camera icon) Menu Settings

Figure 5-25: The various focus areas that can be invoked in the A77 II: Wide
area (79 points), Zone (a clump of 9 or 12), Center, Flexible Spot, Expanded
Flexible Spot, 61-point, and 15-point flexible spot. (The last two can be called up
in the menu, described in Sections 6.12 and 6.13.)

           5.14.5 EXPAND FLEXIBLE SPOT
Is that tiny AF point (from either “Spot” or “Flexible Spot” above) too
small to do the job? Then Sony has two variations you may find useful:
 “Expand Flexible Spot” which groups 9 AF points (centered around
your chosen AF point) together. You can see the gang of 9 move
around the screen as you choose a new focusing area with the joystick.
 “Zone” which does almost exactly the same thing as “Expand Flexible
Spot” except it will gang together 12 or 9 focus points (depending upon
where in the frame you are). Try this out for yourself to understand its
              behavior.
