Focus Magnifier 225
My recommendation: If you’re a purist, choose Optical Zoom Only. If
you’re a tourist, keep it on for the sheer convenience it offers.
Other things of note for these features:
The Focus Area switches to Center when in Digital Zoom mode.
The Metering Mode is set to Multi and cannot be changed.
Face detection doesn’t work in either zoom mode.
Neither feature can be used in RAW or RAW+JPG mode.
The zoom function gets reset every time the camera gets switched off.

Focus Magnif. Time
In Chapter 2 I told you about the joys of Peaking Level combined with
either Direct Manual Focus (DMF) or Manual Focusing. That’s a great
focusing aid that’s on all the time; but if you need some more assistance the
Focus Magnifier can come to your rescue.
When invoked (either from the menu or by assigning it to a button), it first
asks you to specify where in the image you want to focus critically, and
then it zooms in to allow you to focus.
Here’s how to use it:
1. Invoke the feature either from the menu or pressing a previously-
assigned button
2. A small orange rectangle appears in the middle of the screen. Here the
camera is asking you “What part of your composition do you want me
