although technically image altering features like the color balance in Sunset
mode get marked in the RAW file but not actually applied to the image.

TIP: For a long time, the Long Exposure Noise Reduction feature was
incompatible with RAW on previous Sony camera. I guess this means the noise
is removed before being written to the memory card. Technically this violates
the spirit of RAW, but I can’t think of anyone who wants the benefit of this
            feature who would complain.

           2.5 QUICK SETUP FOR VIDEO

If you need to start shooting video RIGHT NOW and don’t want to plow
through the book looking for how to set this and that feature, here is a
condensed version of everything you need to know to get started (with
references to sections for more information):

 For point-and-shoot style videos, just press the Movie button on the
back (with the red dot in the center). This is full-Auto and can be
accessed from ANY mode dial setting as long as MENU  7 
MOVIE Button is set to ALWAYS.
 Focus Mode: The factory default of Wide Area is usually best (Fn 
AF Area  Wide). In Wide Area AF mode face detection still works
and helps the camera decide what to focus on (see Section 3.4 on how
your camera chooses a focus point). Another tool you have at your
disposal for tracking moving things is the Center Lock-On AF feature
explained in Section 5.14 which works OK with certain non-face
              objects too.
 If you want some control over shooting parameters, start by moving the
mode dial to “Movie mode” ( ). When this happens, Live View
automatically switches to 16:9 and the appropriate crop factor kicks in
so you can accurately frame your shot before you shoot. If you are
willing to forgo autofocus mode then you can set your f/stop, shutter
speed, or both (essentially putting it into Aperture Priority, Shutter
Priority, or Manual Exposure mode) by choosing your exposure mode
              (MENU  8  Movie  [Choose from A, S, or M mode]. You
