      REAR WHEEL/SUSPENSION
      REAR WHEEL

                      REMOVAL
                      Support  the motorcycle using  a safety  stand or hoist,
                      raise the rear wheel off the ground.                              [7]
                      Fully slacken the drive chain (page 3-16).
                      Push the rear wheel forward.
                      Derail the drive chain [1] from the driven sprocket.
                      Remove the  rear  axle  nut [2], washer [3], and right
                      adjusting plate [4].                          [1]                                    [6]
                      Remove the rear axle [5], left adjusting plate [6], rear
                      wheel, and side collars [7].

                       • Do not suspend the brake caliper/bracket assembly
                        from the brake hose. Do not twist the brake hose.
                       • Do not operate the brake pedal after removing the
                        rear wheel.
                       • CRF1000D: Do not operate the parking brake lever
                        after removing the rear wheel.

                      INSPECTION
                      Turn the inner race of each bearing with your finger.
                      The bearings should turn smoothly and quietly.
                      Also check that the outer race fits tightly in the wheel
                      hub.
                      Inspect the following parts for damage, abnormal wear,
                      deformation or bends.
                      – Rear axle
                      – Rear wheel
                      Measure each part according to REAR WHEEL/
                      SUSPENSION SPECIFICATIONS (page 1-26).
                      Replace any part if it is out of service limit.
                      Refer to the wheel balance service (page 17-11).
